Sky Ireland is set to refund thousands of broadband and bundled TV customers following the discovery of an overcharging error affecting a small number of accounts for more than a year. The issue impacted less than 1% of the company’s approximately 260,000 broadband subscribers.

The overcharges occurred when Sky increased some bills without notifying affected customers, violating contract-change requirements. The average overcharge per customer was around €50. Sky confirmed that credits will be applied directly to customer accounts, and refunds will be issued via previous payment methods or by cheque if necessary.

Sky spokespersons explained that the error was identified during a review of contract-change notifications. Customers who have since switched providers will also receive refunds. The company noted that the price of affected packages will increase from January 2026.

ComReg, Ireland’s telecommunications regulator, emphasised that providers must notify customers at least one month in advance of any contract changes, including price adjustments, and inform them of the right to terminate without penalty.

The refunds follow Sky’s quality-control checks aimed at ensuring billing accuracy. The company’s corrective actions are intended to reimburse customers fairly while complying with regulatory standards.

Affected customers are encouraged to check their accounts and ensure refunds are received, particularly if their payment details have changed.

This move highlights Sky Ireland’s commitment to transparency and regulatory compliance as the company continues to serve tens of thousands of households across the country.
