Morrisons has selected Everseen, a Cork based Vision AI company, to deploy its Evercheck self-checkout platform across 200 UK stores in an initial rollout phase. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Morrisons is a Bradford headquartered supermarket chain and one of the UK's largest grocery retailers, operating close to 500 stores under private ownership by Clayton, Dubilier and Rice. The company reported turnover of £15.8 billion and underlying EBITDA of £835 million for the year to 26 October 2025.
Everseen is a Cork based Vision AI company founded in 2007, employing around 1,000 people and supplying computer vision technology to more than 10,000 stores worldwide. The company remains privately held and does not disclose detailed financial results.
The partnership reflects a structural shift in UK grocery retail, where rising labour costs following the April 2025 increase in employer National Insurance contributions are pushing retailers toward automation that reduces staffing needs at the till while improving transaction speed.
For Morrisons, Vision AI monitoring addresses shrinkage without adding headcount, at a time when the retailer is managing tight margins after a £381 million statutory loss in its last financial year. For Everseen, the deal extends its footprint with one of the UK's largest grocers, reinforcing its position in a vision AI market undergoing rapid consolidation, illustrated by GK Software's acquisition of Nomitri in January 2025.
The global computer vision for retail market is projected to grow from $5.24 billion in 2026 to $12.19 billion by 2030, a compound annual growth rate of 23.5 per cent, as retailers scale AI driven checkout systems to cut losses and speed service.
For Ireland, the deal reinforces Cork's position as a hub for retail AI, with Everseen among a cluster of Irish vision AI firms gaining share as global retailers shift loss prevention and checkout monitoring to computer vision platforms.
As UK retailers face sustained pressure on margins from labour costs and shrinkage, self-checkout monitoring is moving from a discretionary pilot to a standard requirement across large format grocery, and vendors with proven deployments at scale stand to capture the next wave of contracts.
