Speciality chemicals company Evonik has opened its first Beauty Science and Innovation Centre in Asia at the Evonik Shanghai Innovation Park in China, establishing an integrated hub designed to strengthen customer engagement and accelerate innovation across the region's beauty and personal care market, according to Evonik.

The centre integrates biotechnology-driven ingredient innovation, formulation expertise and consumer-relevant testing capabilities, enabling Evonik to support beauty and personal care brands through more diversified and collaborative development models. China represents the world's second-largest cosmetics market and is experiencing rapid growth amid intensifying competition.

A dedicated Customer Experience Centre within the facility provides a multifunctional space for solution demonstrations, scientific communication co-creation and the exploration of flexible partnership models, positioning customer collaboration at the core of the hub's operating model.

Additional facilities include the Asia RD&I Platform, spanning molecular design to industrial scale-up, the Asia Personal Care Applied Innovation Lab supporting brands across skincare, hair care, sun care and colour cosmetics, and the Chinese lab of the global Evonik Skin Institute, which applies advanced 3D skin models and biomarker analysis to address the unique characteristics of Asian skin.
