Boldyn Networks has deployed a neutral-host Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at The O2 Belfast, Northern Ireland's largest indoor arena, with O2 customers the first to access the new network and the system designed to support all UK mobile network operators at full venue capacity.

Boldyn Networks is a London-headquartered global neutral host network infrastructure provider, majority-owned by CPP Investments, with estimated annual revenue of approximately $295.6 million (€270 million) and approximately 1,200 employees.

The company is one of the world's largest neutral host providers, with operations across the US, UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Finland and Hong Kong, and a track record including the London Underground connectivity network and the first private 5G standalone network in a European hospital.

The O2 Belfast, operated by The Odyssey Trust, is a 12,000-capacity multi-purpose arena welcoming more than 800,000 visitors annually, alongside the W5 Science and Discovery Centre and associated food and leisure tenants.

The structural driver is the shift from connectivity as venue infrastructure to connectivity as fan experience. A packed 12,000-seat arena creates one of the most demanding RF environments in any built environment: tens of thousands of active devices simultaneously uploading video, processing digital tickets, making contactless payments and streaming content generate traffic spikes that blanket building-level mobile coverage cannot handle.

The neutral host DAS distributes antenna infrastructure throughout the venue, with particular density in the seating bowl and rink, so that each zone maintains capacity regardless of attendance. The zone-based architecture also allows precise tuning across different event types, from ice hockey to concerts.

The O2 commercial partnership, which gives O2 customers first network access ahead of other operators joining the neutral host, is a standard commercial incentive structure: a lead operator prioritises the infrastructure build in exchange for a market-positioning advantage that diminishes as other operators onboard.

For the sector, the O2 Belfast deployment extends Boldyn's Irish footprint and establishes a reference project for neutral host DAS in Northern Irish venues at a moment when Belfast's event economy is expanding significantly following major public realm investment in the city centre.
